As a child, I loved to hear a good story. I remember a large Bedtime Storybook that Mama or Daddy would read from. It contained 365 stories—one for every day of the year. The stories were short, but this was a great way to settle down before saying our prayers, kissing good-night, and turning out the light.
At school, the teacher would often read to us following recess after lunch. This was our “quiet time,” and we’d rest our heads on our desks and listen to the next chapter in Charlotte’s Web or some other wonderful children’s classic. Her animated voice would bring each character to life. We never wanted her to stop, and sometimes she would give in to our pleas to read “just one more chapter.”
Now, as an adult, I still love to hear or read a good story. And I know I am not alone. There seems to be something within each of us that anticipates with excitement the way a new story unfolds, how it reveals the characters’ motivations and shows us how they deal with their circumstances. We long for a satisfying ending, one not contrived, but one with which we can relate.
I hope this Southern Story Lady will soon be able to entertain you with many stories like that.
Looking forward to reading more of your stories!
I bet they will. I look forward to reading them too!
Maybe you’ll be the next big blog thing on the internet… like Pioneer Woman has become! 🙂
Ready to get your new book. I’ve enjoyed your stories.
